Trolex AirXD Dust Monitor FAQs
Common questions about the Trolex AirXD Dust Monitor, including real-time particulate monitoring, PM measurements, industrial dust monitoring, data logging and use in demanding working environments.
What is the Trolex AirXD Dust Monitor?
The Trolex AirXD is a real-time dust and particulate monitoring system designed for industrial environments. It continuously measures airborne particles, allowing changing dust conditions to be identified and monitored throughout the working day.
What types of particulate matter can the AirXD measure?
The AirXD can monitor multiple particulate fractions including PM1, PM2.5, PM4, PM10 and Total Suspended Particulates (TSP). This provides a detailed picture of airborne particulate conditions across a range of particle sizes.
Does the AirXD provide real-time dust monitoring?
Yes. The AirXD continuously monitors airborne particulates rather than relying solely on periodic sampling. Its averaging period can be configured from approximately 1 second to 24 hours, allowing monitoring to be adapted to different industrial applications.
How does the Trolex AirXD measure airborne dust?
The AirXD uses Optical Particle Counting (OPC) technology to measure airborne particulates. It can detect particles across a size range of approximately 0.35 µm to 40 µm and process thousands of particle measurements each second.
Does the AirXD require pumps or filters?
The AirXD is designed without conventional pumps or filters, helping reduce routine maintenance requirements. This makes it well suited to continuous monitoring applications where reliability and minimal maintenance are important.
Where can the Trolex AirXD Dust Monitor be used?
The AirXD is suitable for demanding environments where airborne dust and particulates need to be monitored. Applications include mining, tunnelling, construction, manufacturing, processing facilities and other industrial workplaces where dust levels may vary during operation.
What is the difference between PM1, PM2.5 and PM10?
PM classifications refer to the approximate aerodynamic size of airborne particles. PM1 refers to very fine particles, PM2.5 covers particles up to approximately 2.5 micrometres, while PM10 covers particles up to approximately 10 micrometres. Monitoring several fractions helps provide a broader understanding of workplace particulate conditions.
Can the AirXD store dust monitoring data?
Yes. The AirXD provides extensive onboard data storage, with data available for download via USB. Long-term monitoring data can be useful for reviewing trends, investigating periods of increased particulate levels and assessing changing site conditions.
Can the AirXD connect to other monitoring systems?
Yes. The AirXD provides connectivity options including 4–20 mA outputs, RS-485 MODBUS and Ethernet. It also includes configurable alarm outputs, allowing it to form part of a wider industrial monitoring and control system.
Can MTI help with an industrial dust monitoring system?
Yes. MTI can help with product selection, installation requirements, system integration and ongoing technical support. You can learn more about our service and support capabilities or contact MTI to discuss your dust monitoring requirements.
